Cancellation Policy

A minimum notice of 72 hours is necessary to request a refund unless accompanied by a medical note from a local doctor. Guests who do not show up for their Activities will be charged the full amount. However, cancellations due to weather conditions by Mendes Ranch will be eligible for a 100% refund.

Tips for a Comfortable Ride

West Side Riders: Do not enter the GPS until you have passed through the Pali. The route to reach Mendes Ranch is through Central Maui. Avoid the North end of the Island due to its narrow and windy road.
Wear long pants and closed-toed shoes for a comfortable ride. Blue jeans and running shoes are ideal choices.

Our guides were very friendly, entertaining, and knowledgeable of the surrounding land and property. The horses know what they're doing and won't go faster than a walk unless you're at the running point which is a plus for beginners but may be a downside to experienced riders.

My wife purchased a trail ride for us for our honeymoon. I was skeptical at first but in the end I had an amazing time. Our instructor, Bucky (I think, I apologize if that wasn't your name), was incredibly knowledgeable and welcoming. You can ignore the slightly rustic environs (nothing crazy if you are used to the country and farms) surrounding the barns because the ocean view is stunning. Get there a little early and check out the view from the gazebo. Once saddling up the ride took us down the hill from the barn and diverted into the forest before rejoining the path to several overlooks. The view from the overlook was jaw dropping. Ignore the review in the Maui Revealed book. Bucky was super friendly and offered to take countless photos of us with our phones. We were able to experience having our horses canter or gallop toward the end of the ride coming back uphill. Soft drinks were provided at the barn. Hold onto your hat, it can get pretty windy. Only had one other person on our ride so it was basically like having a private tour.

My wife and I had an excellent experience. Rocky, Butch, and Kami were our guides. Rocky explained everything and made it very easy for first time riders. They all help everyone mount up and guide us along the trail. There are a couple places where they will stop and take pictures of each group and individual rider near cliffs overlooking the ocean. The trail has some large sections of downhill and uphill riding. They have sodas and coffee available while waiting for everyone to check in and get ready. They have saddle bags available that hang on the saddle horn for your small items you wish to carry with you on the ride. I highly advise using them. I recommend bringing a small water bottle that you can carry in the saddle bags or a water flask you can hook on them. Wear closed toe shoes. I preferred wearing jeans but shorts are ok. Don't forget to tip your guides.

My horse was named Quicksmoke, I can't remember now, but my wife's horse had a fast sounding name too. We got to run a couple of times along the trail, it was a blast. Add the scenic views, good BBQ, and fun loving staff, and you've got a great memory. I hope we have the opportunity to return some day.
