Upper Waikani Falls is a very popular stop along the road to Hana and for good reason. These picture-perfect waterfalls are easily accessible, there is nearby parking, and of course, there is a plunge pool at the bottom if you’re looking to take a dip! Also known as the “Three Bears Waterfalls”, Upper Waikani Falls along the Road to Hana are three separate waterfalls that are parallel to one another. Cascading down over 70 feet to a perfect swimming location, these falls are one of the most popular waterfalls in the Hawaiian Islands. There is a short hike down to the plunge pool from a small parking area located along the Hana Hwy.
These falls are gorgeous and the water falling from them can become quite powerful. During the rainy season, Upper Waikani falls can surge a hefty amount of water down its over 70-foot height. Be especially careful during the rainy season, or right after any sort of rain. The water in the Upper Waiakani Falls is exceptionally clear. When the falls flow is calm it is easy to see that the plunge pool, although swimmable, is not safe to jump or dive into. This can become more difficult to see during the rainy season when the water flow is more intense. Even if it looks deep enough to jump into please do not. This plunge pool is not safe to jump or dive into.
Upper Waikani Falls is located past the Ke’Anae Penninsula and Wailua Valley. If you happen to reach Pua’a Ka’a State Wayside Park you have gone too far. Both Waulya Valley and Pua’a Ka’a have amazing waterfalls too. Wailua has the Wailua Falls and Pua’a Ka’a has the famous Pua’a Ka’a falls.

1. Take the Hana Highway (Hwy 360) pass the Ke’Anae Penninsula.
