Maui is a mysterious and powerful place place, that is synonymous with nature, beauty, and culture. The island is full of excitement and wonder. One of the most incredible ways to experience the  rich culture and history of the island and it’s people is to participate in a Maui Luau, one of the traditional family activities that make Hawaii so special. The Sheraton’s Maui Nui Luau does an amazing job of transporting you into the inner essence of Hawaiian culture.

Arrival

Before the show begins, the staff will greet you with the warm Aloha spirit that Hawaii is known for. You will be ushered to a nice grassy knoll where you and your group can take an optional photo. You can take the photo with the ocean as a back drop, or one onthe grass with one of the performers that you will see on stage later in the evening. After you have been photographed, you can head over to the wooden booth next to the giant tiki’s to check in with you and your party.

 

Seating

Alright, so you’ve checked in. Great! Now all you have to do is get to the proper seat. Fortunately, a friendly staff member is on hand to help you traverse the beautiful ocean front lawn and find a comfortable seat. The laua has preffered seating up close to the stage for those who want an up close view of the show and are comfortaly splurging a bit for the better view. Each member of your group will receive a leia beautiful purple flower lei. Once you are checked in and seated, feel free to shuffle over to the open bar for a nice mai tai, or pina colada. Be sure to check with the staff if you have gluten allergies. There are a few gluten free options such as the hana bay rum, but it’s best to ask if you have any doubts.

Once everyone is seated you will be treated to some local music performances.  This is a great time to get to know the people at your table.  This is a great way to make new friends since you will be spending time with them througout the evening People from all over the world will be attending the show with you, so be sure to make some new connections.

During this pre-show period, the MC will appear on stage and welcome everyone to the show. Your attention will be directed to the cooking kalua pig to the left of the stage.  Guests are invited to actually get out of their seats at this time for the greate reveal. Your mouth will begin to water as the pig is removed from the imu(underground oven). Using an imu is the traditional way to cook a kalua pig. You can smell the delicious scent of the pork as it is carried away to the kitchen, in preparation for the feast.

Once the food has been prepared, you and your table will be taken to the buffet area. The food selection is incredible. There are many yummy items to choose from including items such as Slow Roasted Kalua Pork, Steamed Kula Cabbage, Island Style Pulehu Chicken, Soy-Ginger Glaze, Maui Gold Pineapple Salsa Grilled Pacific Catch, Lomi Lomi Salmon, Poi,  and Hawaiian Style Fried Rice. Guests aren’t limited to just the options mentioned here. Numerous food choices are available. Not to mention that many of the options are vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free. There is also a wide assortment of delicious desserts to chose from. Please read the food labels carefully if you have any dietary restrictions.

Right before the main show commences, during sunset, you will get to see a rare tradition that has been happening at the Maui Nui Luau for nearly 60 years. As the diver prepares to dive from a 35 foot high cliff into the ocean below. He will light the torches to prepare the his path. This is one of the most amazing things to see as he finishes the lighting ceremony and takes the plunge directly into the seat.

 

 

The Main Show

The main show is a wonder to behold. You will feel the magic and mystery of how the Hawaiian islands became the beautiful place it is today. Through song, traditional Hawaiian and Polynesian dance, you will be told a story of how the first Polynesians reached the islands from Tahiti Nui. The show includes stories of love and loss, war and death, and new hope. During the show, you are able to continuously drink and you can re-visit the buffet up until 30 minutes into the show’s progression.

Sit back and relax as the show takes you on a journey to the past, as expressed through art and dance. You will get to witness performances that emulate the prayers, love magic, and and deep spirituality of the Hawaiian people.

The Maui Nui Finale

The Show finale is nothing less than a blazing fire dance that emphasizes the shows name. Performed by one of the worlds foremost fire dancing champions, this finale sizzles with intensity. The acrobatic display of danger intermingled with fiery intensity will create a memorable and lasting impression. This is bound to be an incredible experience for anyone who attends. Families, Children, Lovers, and friends will not be able to forget the inclusive magic of the show they just took part in.

After the Show

Once the curtains close, feel free to stay for a while and catch up with the other guests.  Be sure to go the back table to see the photo that you and your group took earlier. The pictures of stunning high quality and are a perfect way to preserve the memory of your experience. Before you go, be sure to get your parking validated.
